If you’re already doing yoga as part of your fitness routine, then you know it can help improve flexibility, balance, focus, and can also act as a stress reliever. But did you know that certain yoga poses may also help alleviate back pain?

Silver Sneakers instructor Dina Sexton explains, “Improving back health and doing yoga are often all about the core.” Strengthening the core muscles is what helps protect the spine.

Best 3 Yoga Poses to Try

Sexton recommends three specific yoga poses to help work the core muscles and in turn, potentially help with preventing and improving back pain.

  • Cat Cow
  • Chair Pose
  • Warrior Two

Whether you’re a seasoned yogi or are new to the practice, these are all beginner moves that don’t require too much coordination, so they should be fairly easy to work into your routine. Be sure to be careful and consult with your doctor if you have not been active for a long period of time.

Do you practice yoga as a means of staying fit, and has it helped with back pain? We’d love to hear from you.
