Maintaining a regular exercise routine in retirement is a great way to keep yourself in good physical shape, improve flexibility and mobility, and also have a healthy social life.
Of course, sometimes it can be hard to stay motivated to work out, especially with other stressors you encounter in daily life. Not to mention, even in retirement, there are still so many responsibilities, like keeping the house clean, paying bills, and running errands.
The National Institute on Aging came up with four great tips to encourage seniors to stay motivated to exercise.
4 Ways to Keep Up With Your Exercise Routine
- Make working out fun — Try new activities untl you find one you truly enjoy.
- Find ways to fit it into your day — Incorporate it into your routine, like walking your dog or doing chores.
- Keep it social and interact with friends — Try a group exercise class or invite friends to join you on walks.
- Track your progress for how you’re doing with your workouts — Download a fitness app to hold yourself accountable and see how you’re improving.
