We all know that exercise is important, especially as you age. It improves cardiac health, strength and balance, as well as your mental state. But too much can be detrimental.
According to Fit and Well, this holds true for highly active seniors as well. They can suffer from persistent aches and pains, chronic injuries, and repetitive strain.
A board-certified geriatric physical therapist says, “The pain-inducing culprit with highly active adults is often repetitive stress without proper recovery.”
She says two easy ways to help reduce aches and pains and prevent injury are to diversify your movement (mix up your training rather than doing the same exercise all the time) and prioritize sleep (good quality sleep aids in recovery). It’s important to note that if you struggle with pain that keeps you awake, a physical therapist can help you troubleshoot your sleep posture.
