Typically ‘Good’ Habits Might Cause Premature Aging

As we get older, we tend to develop habits we think will help us age better. AARP reports medical and fitness experts warn our “good” habits may cause us to age prematurely. Here are six ways to avoid those pitfalls.

  1. Do strength training and other exercise instead of just walking every day.
  2. Supportive shoes can weaken your toe and foot muscles if worn all the time.
  3. Stay hydrated and don’t just drink water when you get thirsty.
  4. Don’t avoid being out in the sun because some exposure helps with body rhythms.
  5. Recognize nutrition bars are processed foods with lots of sugar.
  6. Eating eggs is actually healthy and good for you nutritionally.

Instead of relying on what you think are the right habits, a more varied routine in terms of diet and exercise can help you stay fit and put off premature aging. Controlling your circadian rhythms will ensure better sleep, which is the time when your body repairs itself from daily wear and tear.

Everything in Moderation

The bottom line is that no matter what types of habits you incorporate into your lifestyle, it’s best to practice things in moderation. Get moving, mix things up, and aim to follow the 80/20 rule when it comes to nutrition. It’s ok to splurge once in a while, but a balanced diet and way of life are key to slowing down the aging process.
